Belhaven Hits Shot With .7 Seconds To Sink Eagles

The Eagles lost a heart-breaker 61-59 on a jump shot in the final seconds against Belhaven Thursday night in Mississippi. Savannah Kate Smith drilled a three-pointer with 21 seconds left to cut the deficit to 58-57. Belhaven then hit one of two free throws with 20 seconds left to give the Eagles another offensive possession. Belhaven fouled Hailey Ostrander, who sank both free throws to tie it 59-59. On Belhaven's next possession, the Blazers isolated Aaliyaha Thornton in a one-on-one situation. Thornton came through as she hit the game-winner with just .7 seconds remaining. The Eagles did get the last shot on an inbounds play, but were unable to convert. Delanei Stephens led the Eagles with 17 points.
