Philander Smith College jumped out to a 30-11 first quarter lead and never let the Eagles back into the game handing the visitors a 88-49 setback to open the season. Philander Smith started the game hitting 7-of-11 (63%) from the three-point line in the first quarter. The home team missed just one free throw in that quarter. The Eagles would outscore Philander 15-13 to head into halftime facing a 43-26 deficit. Philander had a big fourth quarter hitting 57 percent from the field to score 24 points. Philander's aggressive defense forced the Eagles into 34 turnovers. The Eagles shot 34 percent from the floor, while the Panthers made 42 percent in the game. The Panthers made 11 three-pointers. Freshman guard Brittney Sain scored 15 points in her collegiate debut to lead the Eagles.
