Game Two: Spalding University 4, University of the Ozarks 2
University of the Ozarks (6-12)
Spalding University (9-3)
Spalding overcame a strong pitching performance from starter Dalton Spurgeon to edge the Eagles 4-3 in game one. Spurgeon mowed down 11 Spalding batters over 8.1 innings, but ended up receiving the loss. A big RBI double from Spalding's Zane Baker in the top of the ninth proved to be the difference in the game against Spurgeon. But it was the Eagles who plated three runs in the first on two hits. Chase Edwards was responsible for two of those runs as he laced a single to centerfield. The other run came from a Spalding miscue in the field. Spalding matched the Eagles with three runs in the next frame to even the score. Neither team produced much offense until Spalding recorded two hits in the ninth. After allowing hits in the first and second, Spurgeon threw a hitless third, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Edwards and Rey Lozano each had two hits.
